SUN AWARENESS WEEK 2019

This week is National Sun Awareness Week. The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) nationally runs a campaign around skin cancer called Sun Awareness.

According to Cancer Research UK, melanoma skin cancer incidence rates in the UK are projected to rise by 7% by 2035.

National Sun Awareness Week is included within this and is overseen by the BAD's Skin Cancer Prevention Committe, who are comprised of leading medical professionals with expertise in skin cancer, vitamin D and public health messaging.

Raising awareness of skin cancer, the campaign has a two-pronged approach and combines prevention and detection advice. Encouraging people to regularly self-examine for skin cancer is the first aim. The second, is to educate on the dangers of sunburn and excessive tanning, in light of the associated risks of skin cancer.
